Dubbing Differences: The Three Caballeros
Okay, this one here? This is a big one. The Three Caballeros was released by Disney in 1945 as a goodwill message for Latin America. Uniquely, as part of Disney's goal to make this movie specifically for Spanish, Portuguese, and English speakers, the three main characters—Donald Duck, José Carioca, and Panchito Pistoles—have the same voice actors in all three versions! It was a bit difficult to understand Donald's Portuguese in a few places, but for the most part, Clarence Nash did an admirable job throughout. And it was fun to watch the film through a Brazilian's eyes and see the ways that the three languages presented in the film overlap like a Venn diagram at times, just like they do in the English version. Here are the differences I found:

Dubbing Differences: Disney's Robin Hood
I found the following notable changes in the Brazilian Portuguese dub of Disney's Robin Hood. I had a lot of déjá vu while writing these down. I must've told my brother about them too or something, but I could've sworn that this was the first Dubbing Differences post I've made. Weird.

Dubbing Differences: The Emperor's New Groove
I was having déja vu while watching The Emperor's New Groove in Portuguese, and I realized it was the first film I ever watched when Disney+ started offering Portuguese dubs! That was before I had started these projects, so this time I was able to listen much closer. Because of the slang and much more conversational tone of the dialog, there were a lot of Brazilian colloquialisms and idioms put in that were a lot of fun to discover. As a result, this is the longest Dubbing Differences yet.

Dubbing Differences: Disney's Hercules
Welcome to a new series, Dubbing Differences, where I watch classic films in Portuguese and highlight their most interesting and funny differences in translation. It's fascinating to me how much effort it must take to find translated lines that get the idea across, that are spoken in more or less the same period of time on screen, that are voiced by actors who have reasonably similar vocal timbre to the originals, and to go the extra mile that fit the lip syncing of the character pretty close. And don't even get me started on translating entire songs that rhyme... Those deserve much more attention than these smaller articles.
