I found the following notable changes in the Brazilian Portuguese dub of Disney's Snow White:
Snow White’s name translates roughly as “White like Snow.”
The Queen talks in formal Portuguese (thee, thy, shall, etc.)
“Mirror, mirror on the wall: Who is the fairest of them all?” still rhymes in Portuguese. It translates literally to “Magical mirror of mine: Who is more beautiful than I?”
The wishing well song is different. She wishes that “one day she’ll be happy dreaming.”
The huntsman: “But Your Majesty! The lovely little princess!”
Snow White doesn’t rhyme when she’s talking to the forest animals.
Instead of saying “Put it in the tub!” she says “That’s not how it’s done!”
Instead of “Ah ah ah! Not under the rug!” she says “That’s an ugly way to do it.”
Weirdly enough, the mouse that kicks the dust out of its mouse hole has its chattering sound effect replaced.
“Heigh ho” is replaced with “Eu vou,” which means “I’ll go.” (“to home now I’ll go.”
The dwarves’ names are mostly translated directly, but Doc’s name is Master, and Sneezy and Dopey’s names are Atchim (somewhat imitative of a sneeze) and Dunga, which is a word made up for the movie.
Doc’s stutters are different to match Portuguese malapropisms. Here they are translated to English:
“The light’s sour!—uh, lit!”
“Yes, let’s sneeze—uh, spy.”
“We went—uh, let’s go!”
“Search every deer—uh, tear—uh, corner.”
“Who am I and what am I doing?—uh, who are, uh…”
“We’re crazy mad! No, no, we’re expired! Uh, what was I saying?”
“Do you know how to make right dough? Er, pie dough?”
“In the fireplace. The fire! No, no…”
Instead of “Jiminy Crickets!” they say the common Portuguese exclamation “Our Lady!”
Grumpy says “I knew it!” instead of “There’s trouble a-brewin’.”
Instead of saying there’s “dirty work afoot,” which is I guess a joke about how the house is clean, Grumpy just says “I’m suspicious.”
Grumpy: “See? It’s witchcraft.”
Understandably, Sneezy’s biggest sneeze is left untranslated.
Instead of saying “I… I gotta! It’s comin’!” Sneezy says “Attention! It’s coming! Attention!”
Dopey doesn’t make a snoring sound when he’s relating what he saw in the bedroom. He just silently mimes the action.
When Snow White says “Ohh, you’re Bashful!” instead of “Ohh gosh!” he says “Yes, that’s me.” Later, he says “How embarrassing!” His voice is also much softer and feminine than the deep voice in English.
When she guesses Sleepy’s name, instead of just saying “Uh, yes,” he says “How did you guess?”
Happy says that Dopey never “learned” to talk instead of never tried.
Doc requests apple pie instead of apple dumplings, and Snow White says “Yes, I make good pies and good puddings.”
Instead of “Hah! I knew there was a catch to it,” Grumpy says “She’s already started to arrange everything.”
The dwarfs remark that it’s not Christmas yet instead of New Year’s.
In English, Snow White just sort of makes a surprised sound when Dopey shows her his hands, but in Portuguese, she says “How shameful!” a bit too early, so she doesn’t say anything to Sleepy.
Snow White asks if Grumpy lost his tongue instead of whether the cat got it.
Doc calls Grumpy a “surly boy” instead of a warthog.
The Magic Mirror says that Snow White is “Over the seven hills” (not jeweled hills) and “beyond the forest grove” (instead of seventh fall)
The huntsman leaves the queen with the heart of a beast instead of a pig.
The Silly Song has its words changed. Instead of saying “Isn’t this a silly song for anyone to sing?” they say “There’s no one who can do what I can do.” The verses are completely different too, just making up silly rhymes. Happy sings about how he never “leaves the compass” and Bashful sings about catching a wave(?) and the only thing he remembers is waking up afterward.
Like in the lead-ins to “Whistle while You Work” and “With a Smile and a Song,” Snow White doesn’t rhyme while talking with the dwarfs. She just translates the English lines literally.
Grumpy sneers that they can sleep in the fireplace instead of a pig’s eye.
When Bashful gets kissed on the head, he says “How tasty!” It’s not quite as awkward as it sounds in Portuguese, but it kind of is.
Snow White is making a peach pie instead of a gooseberry one. These fundamental changes are the ones that fascinate me the most. There is a word for gooseberries in Portuguese, so the thinking behind changing it is interesting to me.
The evil stepmother calls the Wishing Apple a “Miraculous Apple.”
Snow White says the Wishing Apple makes her feel “sick” instead of strange.
